WELCOME TO NEW YORK || “a kaleidoscope of heartbeats under coats.”
Ever since I was little I wore Anna Sui perfume, you know the one that was all colorful in the shape of a head? Well that was my all time favorite. When I got the call from my best friend telling me to check my Instagram since well WE WON a trip to NYC to attend the Anna Sui show I can’t even describe to tell you how I was feeling. I probably screamed a thousand times and mind you I was at work, everyone thought I was crazy.
It didn’t feel real, even the packing, the boarding on the plane ,the landing there; I kept wanting someone to pinch me because who just gets a trip to NYC last minute for free to attend Fashion Week. It was our first time in NYC and I remember stepping out in the crisp air for the first time and I still couldn’t believe it. I first of all didn’t believe how cold it was, yeah everyone was telling us it’s going to be freezing which freezing was an understatement it was so cold I thought my nose would freeze and turn into an icicle and fall off my face. I loved it though!
Getting to the hotel took a year but that was fine I just stared out the window the whole time taking in all of the eskimos in coats speed walking to their destination. We stayed in the Dream Hotel which is A DREAM. Everyone treated us so nice I will definitely have to stay there again! Of course we checked in then hit the streets. We walked through Times Square and got lost for a bit, then had to come home to get ready for the greatest night of our lives.
Once we got to the show it was funny because apparently our driver dropped us off in the back
entrance of the show, so we walked into the chaos of what is New York Fashion Week. We kept asking people where to go and they kept pointing to the same direction a door that we’ve walked in and out of like 5 times. No one was giving us a clear answer so we decided to take pictures by the press wall. When it was 6pm we decided to go back to that door and ask again where we can find our seats. As if the universe was speaking to us Cathie and I always get ourselves into these messes where we end up backstage or walking through a row of tour busses on accident, its weird but it happens often and this moment was just the same. We ended up getting escorted to our seats literally walked back - backstage you know where all the models are getting ready and Anna Sui herself is being interviewed while everyone is staring at us being escorted through their mess? Yeah that was us. I felt like it was an out of body experience and the epitome of Fashion Week.
I didn’t think we were going to be as close as we were once seated. Thanks to O'Neill we were row 5 and let me tell you the rows went far back. The show itself was beautiful, I was in awe the whole time i’ve always been obsessed with how Anna throws patterns and lace together so effortlessly. She’s a huge inspiration to my style, but in a blink of an eye it was over. It was probably hands down the best experience of my life sitting there in row 5 smiling looking over at my best friend and her feeling the same way about the show it was incredible. I can’t tell you how thankful I am! Never would I have thought that this year I would’ve been apart of New York Fashion Week. I kept telling Cathie that we were gonna go to New York this year we’ll make it happen and just like that it did! O’Neill has literally been one of my favorite companies since I was little and they are such an inspiration to me, so going on their behalf was not only a dream come true but an experience of a lifetime that we won’t EVER forget!
